Tokly shows the real token cost of a file and cuts it before you paste it into ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini. It tries many representations (compact JSON, TOON, compact tables, clean Markdown, compressed logs), counts each one with a real tokenizer, checks it against your file and keeps the smallest one that passes. Choose Lossless, Maximum or Context mode. PDF, Office, data, text and code files all work, and everything runs on your phone: free, offline, no account, no ads, no tracking.

What makes Tokly different
Real counts, live
Exact counts with OpenAI’s open o200k and cl100k tokenizers, computed locally; other models get a clearly labeled estimate. A live screen shows each step and the best result so far.
Three modes
Lossless keeps your content intact. Maximum also allows compact Tokly notation and can drop details like code comments. Context keeps only what one purpose needs: a code map, an outline, tables or text without repeats.
TOON and compact tables
Uniform JSON arrays become TOON, and a column that repeats one value is written once. On our test set, a pretty-printed array of 200 uniform JSON objects needed 51% fewer tokens in Lossless mode.
Checked, honest savings
In Lossless mode every output is decoded back and compared with your file before it can win. Explanation lines are counted, so the saving you see is the net saving. If a file is already efficient, Tokly says so.
Documents, data and code
PDF (text layer), DOCX, XLSX and PPTX, plus TXT, logs, Markdown, JSON, JSONL, CSV, TSV, HTML, XML, YAML and code in 20+ languages. Copy or share the result straight into your chat.
Private, offline, free
Files are processed on your device and never uploaded, even without a connection. Free, with no account, no ads and no analytics. Optional history keeps only file names and counts, never contents.

Is Tokly free?
Yes. Tokly is free, with no ads and no in-app purchases.
Do my files leave my phone?
No. Tokly has no server and works offline. Files are read, converted and counted entirely on your device, and nothing is uploaded.
Are the token counts exact?
For OpenAI models that use the o200k or cl100k tokenizers (GPT-5, GPT-4.1, GPT-4o, GPT-4 and more), yes — the counts use the official open tables. Claude and Gemini tokenizers are not available offline, so Tokly shows a labeled estimate for them. The saving shown already includes Tokly’s own explanation lines.
Will it change my data?
Not in Lossless mode, the default: every output is checked against your file (same cells, same JSON data, same visible text) and anything that fails is never chosen. Maximum mode may use Tokly notation or drop details such as comments, and Context mode keeps only part of the file; both are always clearly labeled.
